Sitz Baths

This is not a substitute for direct care by YOUR doctor. Confirm with your doctor before doing any of the following.

A Sitz bath is a way to soothe your anorectal area. Think of it like a nice warm compress for your posterior.

Sit in 8 to 10 centimeters of warm water for 15 to 20 minutes, 3 times a day, and after bowel movements (and after you finish your personal hygiene). Then pat the area dry. Do this as long as you have pain in your anal area.

Soaps, salts, and other additives are not necessary and may actually cause more irritation.

There are kits that can be used over toilets for those who do not have a bathtub.
